Our Funds
BDCF currently manages more than 25 funds supporting arts, health care, education, recreation, and more across the Battlefords.
🛡️ Darin Schaefer Warrior Fund
This fund provides financial support for medical expenses incurred by someone who has a critical and/or life-threatening disease. It was established to honour the courageous spirit of those who face serious illness in our community.
The fund covers a range of allowable medical expenses as defined by the Canada Revenue Agency. Applications may be submitted at any time.
🏅 2018 Saskatchewan Winter Games Legacy Fund
Established with the surplus from the highly successful Saskatchewan Winter Games held in the Battlefords in 2018. This fund provides grants twice per year to projects that will grow sport activity for youth (18 years and under) in the region.
🎓 Peter Lewochko Fund
An endowment scholarship fund supporting students pursuing post-secondary education in engineering and related fields. Recipients are selected from graduating students in the Battlefords area, rewarding academic excellence and community involvement.
🎨 Hazel Asmussen Fund for Fine Arts
Provides annual scholarships to students from the Battlefords pursuing post-secondary studies in the fine arts — including visual arts, music, and performing arts. This fund celebrates creative expression and supports the next generation of Battlefords artists.

🏥 Shirley Bedford Memorial Fund
A new scholarship fund established to support second-year psychiatric nursing students at Saskatchewan Polytechnic's Saskatoon campus. Shirley was a psychiatric nurse for over 40 years, dedicated to a life of service, and this fund honours her remarkable legacy.
🌍 Schell Family Fund
One of our newest fundholders, the Schell family demonstrates that even young families can make a lasting impact. Their grants support Battlefords Healthcare Foundation, Humane Society of the Battlefords, Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre, and Ronald McDonald House Saskatoon.
